Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “upbeat” during their recent conversation.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Still unsure,” he added. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, that he feels like that and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities released security footage Monday of a man sought in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and police mentioned it’s not clear if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims as confirmed by officials.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday in the area between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to a local hospital after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a ton” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse just had a child.

“My initial concern, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that needed an operation.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in March and was anticipated to become a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. But Boyd was injured during preseason drills on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, a Texas native, began his career with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.6m with the Jets in March.
